オスカー・ピストリウスは、両足の膝下がないためカーボン繊維製の競技用義足をつけて走る. 彼は、今年の北京五輪出場を目指していたが、国際陸上競技連盟が「バネや車輪など、選手に有利となる器具の利用を禁止する」というルールに抵触しないか審査した結果、出場を認めないと1月に発表．しかし、パラリンピックへの参加には影響ない．理由は、消費エネルギーが健常者の25%少ないということ。エネルギーだけをみれば、義足のバネとその分構成する筋肉が少ないため確かにその分のエネルギーは必要とされていない．ただし、消費エネルギーだけを考えたらというだけの話．嘗て協会や団体が一度でも正しい判断をくだしたことがあるのか？ しかしTAS(スポーツ仲裁裁判所)へ提訴した結果国際陸上競技連盟の結論を覆した、ｓのため北京オリンピックに健常者と共に走る姿が見られるかもしれない．

IAAF rules amputee Oscar Pistorius is a south-African amputee runner,　he uses carbon transbial blades as artificial limbs. The IAAF in January has made him　ineligible for Beijin Olympics, the IOC obviously agrees with the verdict. This decision does not affect his eligibility to the paralympic.
the debatable reasons behind the decision come from a reasearch which says that there’s a 25% energy consumption compared to able-bodied athletes, but this is only a mechanical argument.

However TAS an international panel, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, ruled that the double-amputee sprinter was eligible to compete in the Beijing Olympic Games, overturning a ban imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations, track and field's governing body.
